Jim Oppermann worked at Alverno College for more than 18 years as the Vice President of Finance and Management Services (Chief Financial Officer) and was a founding supporter of Alverno College Athletics. As a Division III collegiate athlete, Jim recognized the importance of athletics as an integral part of the college experience.

Jim, along with Virginia Wagner, was instrumental in the research and development of the proposals that led to the establishment of the athletic department as part of the college's strategic plan to attract more traditional aged students.

In 2000, athletics became a reality for the college. Jim oversaw the renovation of the gymnasium and locker room and the creation of the athletic offices, fitness center, training room, and team room.

Jim was the point person for Alverno becoming a member of the NCAA, a four-year process that culminated in the college becoming a member of the NCAA Division III and subsequently a member of the Lake Michigan Conference.

In 2006, with a generous donation from the Reiman Family, the college built NCAA regulation soccer and softball fields, along with a building housing storage, press box, restrooms and concessions.

In retirement, Jim continues to serve his community. He is a board member of the Wisconsin Health and Educational Facilities Authority (WHEFA), appointed most recently by Governor Evers. He is also a longtime member of the Luther College Audit Committee and is currently serving on the Finance Committee for Nativity Jesuit Academy.

Jim now lives in Fitchburg, Wisconsin with his wife, Mary Sue and they have three children and eight grandchildren all in the area.
