Golf Opens 2026-27 Season at Judson Fall Invite; Hess Posts Best Score in Nearly Two Years

9/2/2026 6:09:00 PM

HUNTLEY, Ill. – The Alverno golf team competed at the Judson University Invite on Wednesday morning, opening their 2026-27 campaign at Pinecrest Golf Club in Huntley, Illinois. The Inferno placed 13th, with senior Michelle Hess (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) setting a new career-best with a score of 106 (+34).

Hess' new career mark is the best Alverno score since 2024, when now assistant coach Avery Maxwell shot a 105 on day one of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Championships on October 4, 2024. Hess' round was highlighted by two pars and consistent play throughout that allowed her to place 61st.

Freshman May Wendelberger (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa East) had a strong debut, posting a 109 (+37) to tie for 66th place. Her score would have been the best for the Inferno last season, as she had a great first scoring for the Inferno.

Fellow freshman Ash Eldridge (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) and Emma Aguilera (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) rounded out the Alverno scoring. Eldridge placed 74th, posting a score of 154 (+82), while Aguilera shot a 157 (+85) and placed 75th.

Judson won the event, posting a team total of +47, while Amelia Dunseth of Rock Valley won the invite with a score of 75 (+3).

The Alverno Inferno golf team next competes at the Benedictine University Fall Invite, as the team will preview the NACC Championship course of St. Andrew's Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
