West Chicago, IL- From Saturday through Monday, the Alverno College Golf team competed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships at St. Andrews Golf Club. The team has improved throughout the season, and that trend continued over the three day event, as the Inferno broke multiple team and individual program records.
The team as a whole shot a 1412 over the three days, a new three day low score record for Alverno Golf. The previous record was set in 2018 at 1427 strokes. The 945 shot over two days by this year's Inferno team also set a two day record, breaking the mark of 1013, which was set in the Fall of 2017.
Several impressive individual accomplishments were made by the Inferno as well. Back on September 16th,
May Wendelberger (Wauwatosa,WI) recorded the lowest round in Alverno golf history when she carded a 97. That record would last less than a month as Wendelberger would shoot an 88 on Sunday, breaking her own record and establishing the new lowest round in the history of Inferno Golf. Additionally, she would set a new record for lowest individual three day total, by shooting a 295 for the weekend, breaking the previous record by 10 strokes. The promising first year player would finish 43rd overall in the event.
Michelle Hess (Aurora,IL) also wrote her name in the Inferno Golf record book, her three day total of 320 is now the third lowest in the history of the Inferno program. Hess shot a 105 on Sunday, her best ever round of her career.
Ash Eldridge (Kenosha, WI) highlighted her weekend with a personal best round of 129 in Monday's round, and
Emma Aguilera (Waukesha,WI) showed a ten shot improvement from Sunday's round with her 125 on Monday.
Lilly Fisher (Chicago Heights, IL) also completed all three rounds on the weekend for the Inferno.
Overall, the Inferno program continues to show impressive growth as they continue to improve their scores and break program records. Aurora University won the event overall, followed by Marian College in 2nd place.
