Division III Week Q&A: Giselle Moreno

4/8/2026 11:48:00 AM

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - As a part of the 2026 Division III Week from April 6-12, Alverno College Athletics will be unveiling a new Q&A each day during the week to highlight some of the student-athletes at Alverno who embody the ideals of a Division III student-athlete. Our second day features Giselle Moreno of the Alverno softball team.

Q: Why Division III?
I chose Division III because it allows me to play college softball while maintaining a social life and focus on earning my degree. I appreciate Division III because it gives me the opportunity to do what I enjoy without feeling overwhelming pressure from softball. It also allows me to pursue internships outside of school and sports, which will benefit me beyond my college experience.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a Division III student-athlete?
My favorite part about being a Division III student-athlete is the balance between academics and athletics. I have time to focus on both without feeling overwhelmed, and I'm able to succeed in the classroom while still playing the sport I love. I'm also seen as both a student and an athlete, which makes me feel supported. This balance helps me grow and prepares me for life after college.

Q: What core values do you associate with being a Division III student-athlete?
Some core values I have as a Division III student-athlete are hard work, leadership, and growth. I strive to give my best effort both on the field and in the classroom, while also leading by example and supporting my teammates. Being in this environment pushes me to continuously improve and reach new goals. These values help shape who I am and prepare me for success beyond college.

Q: Do you find it challenging to balance athletics and academics?
I don't find balancing athletics and academics very challenging because of how our school schedule is set up. I'm able to focus on academics in the morning, get extra practice in the early afternoon, and then attend team practice later in the day. After that, I still have time to relax and complete my homework. As a senior, it feels even more manageable, and I enjoy planning my schedule because it gives me structure to my day and keeps me organized.

Q: In one word, how would you describe being a student-athlete?
Dedicated

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of being a Division III student-athlete?
The most rewarding aspect of being a Division III athlete is gaining lifetime friendships. I get to share the field with some of my best friends, and being able to spend time with them outside of softball and make memories together is really special to me.

Q: What has been your favorite moment here at Alverno, either as a student or as an athlete?
As an athlete at Alverno, my favorite moment was being named First Team All-Conference during my junior year. I worked very hard to achieve that, and I am really proud of it. It made all the effort and dedication worth it and motivated me to keep improving. It's an accomplishment I'll always remember from my college athletic experience.

Q: What does it mean to you to represent Alverno on and off the field, court, etc.?
Representing Alverno on and off the field means being resilient at all times. It means pushing through challenges, even on tough days, and continuing to give your best effort. It also means setting a positive example for others and carrying yourself with integrity in everything you do. Whether in athletics, academics, or everyday life, representing Alverno is about showing pride and commitment.
