MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno College Athletics department has announced that Director of Athletics
Antonio Rivas will serve as interim head basketball coach, effective immediately.
Rivas, who has been at Alverno since July, brings a decade of head coaching experience to the position. His most recent head coaching role came at Dominican during the 2022-23 season, where he led the program for four years after serving as an assistant coach for the previous three.
During his seven seasons with the Dominican women's basketball program, Rivas helped guide the Stars to four consecutive NACC (Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) Tournament appearances, including back-to-back appearances in his first two seasons as head coach. In his second season, Alisha Markley earned second-team all-conference honors under his tutelage, finishing her career with 182 made three-pointers (second in program history) and 1,106 points (third in program history).
In his first season as head coach, the Stars qualified for the NACC Tournament and ranked third in scoring at 68.0 points per game, the third-highest scoring average in program history during the NCAA era. The team also had three student-athletes earn all-conference honors, while a fourth was named the program's first Freshman of the Year.
Rivas also served as an assistant coach at Dominican for three years and as a student assistant at Aurora University while completing his undergraduate degree.
