KANSASVILLE, Wis. – The Alverno golf team competed in the two-day Midwest Region Classic on Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20, finishing 39th in a highly competitive field. Inclement weather halted play on day two, so the final standings were determined solely from Friday's results.

Senior Haley Marini (Friendship, Wis./Adams-Friendship) led the Inferno for the third straight match, placing 206th with a score of 125 (+53). Junior Michelle Hess (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) posted a season-best round, carding a 126 (+54) to finish just one stroke behind Marini in 121st place.

Senior Jenna Kornwolf (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) recorded her best round of the season with a 155 (+83), while her sister, senior Katie Kornwolf (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield), finished with a 168 (+96). Freshman Yazmin Fernandez-Chavez (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI Catholic) made her collegiate debut, shooting a 172 (+101).

Northwestern St. Paul won the team title with a score of +15, while the Eagles' Paige Johnson captured medalist honors with an even-par 72.

The Alverno Inferno golf team has the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Golf Championships next on its schedule, as they will compete in the three-day tournament on Oct. 4-6.
