MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Alverno College has announced the hiring of Caleb Philips as the Athletic Communications Specialist, announced Director of Athletics, Antonio Rivas on Thursday.

"I am excited to add Caleb to our Athletics Staff", said Rivas. "His enthusiasm for providing a positive student-athlete experience and his knowledge of Athletic Communications will be a vital asset to our department and athletes."

Philips comes to Alverno after a successful three-plus years at Plattsburgh State, a NCAA Division III institution in upstate New York. There, Philips served first as the Athletic Communications Assistant from March 2022 to August 2023 before being promoted to the Director of Athletic Communications in August 2023, a role he served in until this past June. He led the publication efforts for the schools 18 varsity sports, helping cover three conference champion hockey teams and numerous All-Conference honorees.

"I want to extend a huge thanks to Antonio, Theresa Barry, and the entire search committee for giving me the opportunity to serve the student-athletes at Alverno," Philips said, "I was immediately impressed by the vision that Antonio has for Inferno Athletics and for the support for this department across campus. As a former Division III student athlete, I am excited to hit the ground running this Fall and to help elevate the experience of the current student-athletes here at Alverno and in the future."

During his time at Plattsburgh, Philips helped lead the transition from Boxcast to Production Truck for the Plattsburgh streaming efforts, helping to elevate the broadcasts throughout all of their home events. He also transformed the social media coverage of the athletics accounts, taking over all social media duties upon arrival and charting record growth in his first year. This past December, Philips was honored as one of the inaugural members of the Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program with 29 other individuals from around the country. He was also the sole nominee for the D3SIDA Region 1 Communicator of the Year award, with an announcement of the winner expected the week of August 18.

Philips got his start in athletic communications at Susquehanna University in August of 2021, but was no stranger to Division III athletics having been a four year member of the baseball team at Houghton College. At the conclusion of his career, he set program records in career saves, single season saves, single season games pitched, and career games pitched. In 2019, he was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team as a utility player.

Philips earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication at Houghton College in 2020 and his Master of Arts in Professional Communication at Youngstown State in 2021.
