MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno Athletics Department is proud to announce its participation in the Cans Across the Conference initiative, part of the annual effort led by the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This friendly competition among the NACC institutions brings together student-athletes, coaches, staff, and the campus community to collect non-perishable food items, toiletries, and cash donations that are converted into the equivalent number of cans (one dollar equals two cans) to help combat food insecurity in our region.

The drive is currently happening and will run through November 22.

Over the years, Alverno has established itself as a strong contributor within the conference, winning each competition from 2010-2018. In past years, the Alverno Athletics Department has collected thousands of items through the drive.

All members of the Alverno College — coaches, student-athletes, staff, and supporters — are encouraged to participate.

Contributions may be made by team or to the overall Athletics department. If your donation is intended for your specific team's total, please drop your items off in your coach's office. If your donation is for the Athletics Department's general total, please drop items off at the office of the Director of Athletics, Antonio Rivas. Cash donations are also welcome; each dollar will be converted to the "two-can" equivalent and will be processed by our finance office at the conclusion of the drive. Items accepted include non-perishables such as canned goods and dry goods, as well as toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.). These also count in the competition.

The collected items will be distributed in two ways: first, a portion will support the Alverno Food Pantry, helping members of our campus community meet basic food needs. The remaining donations will be forwarded to a variety of local charitable organizations to extend our reach beyond the campus.

As part of the NACC competition, the institution that collects the most items across all member schools receives a traveling trophy and the title of conference champion for the year.
