Caleb Philips was named the Athletic Communications Specialist at Alverno in August of 2025.

As the Athletic Communications Specialist, Philips is responsible for the promotion and publicizing of Alverno's seven intercollegiate NCAA varsity sports that compete in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC). The primary responsibility of the Office of Athletic Communications is to disseminate information to members of both the print and electronic media, as well as institutions that Alverno competes against. Responsibilities of the Athletic Communications office include many varied duties like press/media relations, editorial releases and feature stories, game and special event programs, newsletters, social media, statistical maintenance and record keeping, web-content management, and collaborative work with Alverno's Marketing and Communications office.

Philips comes to Alverno after a successful three-plus years at Plattsburgh State, an NCAA Division III institution in upstate New York. There, Philips served first as the Athletic Communications Assistant from March 2022 to August 2023 before being promoted to the Director of Athletic Communications in August 2023, a role he served in until June 2025. He led the publication efforts for the school's 18 varsity sports, helping cover three conference champion hockey teams and numerous All-Conference honorees.

During his time there, Philips transformed the social media coverage of the athletics accounts, taking over all social media duties upon arrival and charting record growth in his first year, as well as standardizing media days. He also helped lead the transition from Boxcast to Production Truck for the Plattsburgh streaming efforts, helping to elevate the broadcasts throughout all of their home events. This past December, Philips was honored as one of the inaugural members of the Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program with 29 other individuals from around the country. He was also named the 2024-25 D3SIDA Region 1 Communicator of the Year in August of 2025, an award that is nominated and selected by fellow Division III Athletic Communicators.

Philips got his start in athletic communications at Susquehanna University in August of 2021, but was no stranger to Division III athletics before then, having been a four-year member of the baseball team at Houghton College. At the conclusion of his career, he set program records in career saves, single-season saves, single-season games pitched, and career games pitched. In 2019, he was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team as a utility player.
