Soccer Falters at Home in Match with Finlandia

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno soccer team closed out its weekend of competition by hosting the Finlandia Lions on the Alverno Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. The Inferno dropped the decision to the Lions by a 6-0 score.

Alverno registered seven shots on the contest including three by freshman Shaye Wolfe, while senior Delainey Smith had a pair of chances. Junior Shoua Vang and freshman Ziri Hernandez-Bustos also had shots on the match.

Defensively senior Allison Weick made 10 saves on the contest, as she falls to 3-3-0 on the season.

The Inferno were able to hang with the Lions through the majority of the first half despite a Finlandia goal just 16 seconds into the contest. The 1-0 lead for the Lions held through the remainder of the first half as the defense of Alverno along with Weick denied Finlandia throughout.

In the second half Finlandia scored its second goal of the match in the 49th minute and added four more in the half to runaway late by a 6-0 score.

Alverno (3-3-0) will open up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, as the team travels to Dominican for a 4 p.m. start with the Stars.
