MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno College softball team will travel to MSOE on Saturday, April 4 to take on the Raiders at noon and 2 p.m. in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. Both teams are currently winless in conference action, meaning one or both teams will come away with their first NACC win of the season.
OPPONENT HISTORY:
MSOE leads the all-time series 28-14.
The Raiders have won 18 straight games against the Inferno, dating back to 2016. Alverno last won on April 13, 2016, defeating MSOE 10-5. To that point, the Inferno had won 14 of the 24 meetings, but the Raiders have been the stronger team over the last decade.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders: 2026 Record (3-15, 0-6 NACC) & 2025 Record (21-23, 15-9 NACC)
MSOE has struggled in 2026 after a solid 2025 campaign and will look to get back on track against the Inferno this weekend. The teams have two common opponents thus far, being Rockford and Marian, who swept both teams. Rockford defeated MSOE 5-4 and 8-5, while Marian won two pitchers' duels by scores of 2-1 & 3-1.
The Raiders offense is led by Carlee Emery, who has hit .434 in 18 games this year, tallying 23 hits, four doubles, and two homers in 18 games played. Rikka Ludvigson is second on the team with a .362 batting average and leads the team with 12 RBI and seven doubles. Jayda Nelson and Lylah DeArmond each are hitting over .320 this year, with Nelson driving in 11 runs.
In the circle, Katie Pollock has been fantastic for MSOE, but only has two wins to show for it, despite a sparkling 2.51 ERA. In nine starts, she has seven complete games and one shutout, tallying 58.2 innings and 44 strikeouts.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE INFERNO:
The Alverno College softball team picked up its first wins of the 2026 season on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Maranatha Baptist at Alverno Softball Field. The Inferno rolled to a 16-1 victory in game one before completing the sweep with a 12-1 win in game two.
Alverno's offense came alive across both contests, combining for 28 runs while showing patience at the plate and capitalizing on opportunities throughout the day. Multiple players contributed in both games, as the Inferno earned their first victories of the season convincingly. While earning plenty of wins in his time as a high school coach in the Milwaukee area, the wins over Maranatha Baptist were the first of
Shawn Grimm's collegiate coaching career on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Gianna Medrano (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) drove in five runs across both games, tallying two hits, while fellow sophomore
Nadya Hudson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) drove in four runs in the game one win. Senior
Hailie Eschbach (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) drove in four runs and had two hits in the pair of wins for the Inferno.
INFERNO TO WATCH:
Eschbach has had a hot bat since returning from the team's trip to Florida, raising her batting average from .231 all the way up to .362. She matched her career-best four hits in one game with a 4-5 day against Rockford on Sunday and has had at least one hit in eight of the team's last nine games. She has also driven in seven runs and scored six times in the last eight games for the Inferno.
BY THE NUMBERS:
MSOE's offense ranks dead last in the conference in batting average, while the Inferno's average of .308 as a team ranks eighth. The Raiders are hitting just .264 as a team and have only scored 56 runs on the season. Alverno's 97 runs scored rank ninth in the conference, while their six homers are tied for fifth.
The Inferno are second behind only Benedictine with a .418 on-base percentage as a team.
On the pitching side, MSOE's arms have the fifth-lowest ERA while the Inferno have the highest earned run average in the conference.
UP NEXT:
The Inferno continues Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday, April 11, when they host St. Norbert, before traveling to Benedictine on Sunday, April 12.
