MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno College softball team returned home on Sunday afternoon for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) doubleheader against Rockford, putting together a record-setting offensive performance despite falling in both contests. The Inferno dropped game one 10-5 before an explosive showing in game two resulted in a 24-16 loss.
Game two saw Alverno etch its name into the program record book, setting a single-game program record for home runs with four blasts, while also tallying a single-game program record for hits in a conference game (19). Senior
Giselle Moreno (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) led the historic effort, tying the program's single-game records with two home runs and ten total bases in a dominant performance at the plate.
Moreno paced a breakout offensive day for the Inferno, finishing game two with four hits and six RBI, while also recording two hits and an RBI in game one. Sophomore

Alyssa Hubli (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) had six hits on the day. Senior
Emily Anguiano (South El Monte, Calif./San Gabriel Mission) had multi-hit days in both games, while adding to the home run total in game two with her first homer of the season.
Alverno moves to 0-16 (0-6 NACC) on the season, while Rockford improves to 8-8 (4-2 NACC).
Game One: Rockford 10, Alverno 5
Alverno collected 10 hits in the opener, but a six-run fifth inning from Rockford proved to be the difference in a back-and-forth contest.
Hudson was 3-3 with three runs scored and a solo homer, while Hubli was 3-4 with a solo homer as well. Moreno had two hits and an RBI, while Anguiano also added two hits and a run scored. Junior
Jaycee Reyes (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) drove in two runs for the Inferno.
Sophomore
Riley Krider (Cromwell, Ind./West Noble) took the loss in the circle, going 4.1 innings and allowing just three hits before fellow sophomore
Cece Ehni (Snohomish, Wash./Monroe) finished the game with 2.2 innings of work.
Alverno struck first in the second inning, as Hudson singled and later scored on a sacrifice bunt from Reyes, beating out the throw to home plate on a bang-bang play.
After Rockford evened the score in the third, Hudson launched a solo home run in the fourth to give Alverno a 2-1 lead. The game shifted in the fifth inning, however, as Rockford capitalized on key opportunities, including a grand slam from Kieran Madigan to take control.
Alverno continued to battle, getting a solo home run from Hubli in the fifth and adding two more runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Moreno and an RBI groundout Reyes, but the Inferno could not overcome the deficit late.
Kendall Knoll earned the victory with six innings of work, allowing five runs, while Madigan reached base three times and scored twice along with her grand sale. Liz Mois also homered for the Regents, driving in two runs and recording two hits, with Tomi Hill also registering two hits and two RBI.
Game Two: Rockford 24, Alverno 16
In a high-scoring affair that featured 40 combined runs, Alverno's offense erupted for a program-record performance, highlighted by multiple home runs and a relentless attack throughout the lineup.
Moreno's 4-5 performance, with six RBI and two home runs helping her tie two program records, led the offensive effort, while senior
Hailie Eschbach (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) also was 4-5. Hubli had three hits and two RBI, while Anguiano and Hudson each had two hits and one homer. Sophomore
Gianna Medrano (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) also had a two-hit day, doubling twice and driving in a run.
Ehni took the loss, totaling five innings on the rubber, and Krider worked three innings in the circle for the home squad.
After Alverno led 3-2 early on, Rockford used a six-run fourth to take an 8-3 lead, as a grand slam from Oliva Lysaght capped the frame.
The Inferno responded with a three-run fourth inning, sparked by a two-run home run from Moreno, with Hubli also driving in a run with a double. The momentum carried into a massive fifth inning, where Alverno plated six runs, including another three-run homer from Moreno and a solo shot from Anguiano, back-to-back, to take a 12-8 lead.
Rockford answered in the sixth with six runs, but Alverno continued to swing the bats, reclaiming the lead behind RBI hits from Hubli and Moreno before Hudson delivered a dramatic two-run home run to make it 16-14.
Despite the offensive surge, Rockford used a big 10-run seventh inning to pull away and secure the win.
Mois had three homers in the nightcap, going 5-7 with six RBI, while Brooklyn Lee had four hits, four runs scored, five RBI, and a homer. Lysaght ended the day with four hits, two home runs, and six RBI for the Rockford offense.
