WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – The Alverno Golf team wrapped up the three-day Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Golf Championship on Monday at St. Andrew's Golf & Country Club in West Chicago, Illinois.
As a team, Alverno finished its first-ever three-day event with a team score of 918, following a team score of 312 on Saturday and a team score of 302 on Sunday. The course was a par 72 with a distance of 5,631 yards.
Leading the way for Alverno on both days was
Avery Maxwell, who carded a team-best 34 on Saturday, followed by a personal career-best score of 46 on Sunday. Maxwell shot a 36 on the final day to finish with a 116.
Nevaeh Cruz was second for the Inferno as she took 45th individually, following a championship-best 65 during the third round to finish the championship with a score of 193.
Jenna Kornwolf capped off the quartet for Alverno with a 99 on Saturday, following a 95 on Sunday to finish the championship with a combined score of 294 to take 46th position on the leaderboard.
Rounding out the scoring for the Inferno was
Katie Kornwolf who shot a 107 on Saturday, following a 105 on Sunday to finish her inaugural championship with a combined score of 315 to take 47th position on the leaderboard.
Winning the team championship was Aurora with a combined team score of 79, including individual champion Ellie Knight with a 10 for the championship. Marian took second, followed by St. Norbert for the third podium spot. The Inferno finished with an eighth place team finish.
The Inferno will close out the fall season this Friday as they host Carthage at Oakwood Park Golf Course on Friday, October 11th.
