Alverno Volleyball Split Saturday Double Header

MILWAUKEE, Wis.- The Inferno split a Saturday doubleheader against Rockford University and Mount Mary University, accompanied by the Inferno's first 3-set sweep of the season.
 
The day started at 12 p.m. as Alverno took on Rockford in a NACC matchup. Rockford took all three sets (25-19, 26-24, 25-21) to take the overall victory.
 
Rolin West led the Inferno with 18 kills as well as a season high, 19 digs. Breann Flannery followed suit behind West with 16 digs, and behind Flannery was Sharisty Kooch with 10 against the Regents, who also tacked on 3 service aces.
 
Izzy Gianniou was the assist leader with 19 against the Regents, putting her over 350 assists on the season.
 
The Inferno regrouped and came back against the Blue Angels of Mount Mary University with a new game plan and new attack.
 
Alverno completed their first 3 set sweep (25-21, 26-24, 26-234) of the season against the Blue Angels.
 
The Inferno saved the best for last as they put up big numbers against the Blue Angels. Rolin West led the Inferno in kills with 21, but Selena Upshur was right behind with 18. Anabella Vik totaled 5 kills against Mount Mary, marking a new career high for the freshman.
 
Sharisty Kooch added 4 service aces against the Blue Angels, totaling 7 total aces on the day. Rolin West and Dominique Tetrault followed behind Kooch both with 2 aces each.
 
Izzy Gianniou collected 35 aces against the Blue Angels, her second highest total of the season. On the defensive side, Rolin West had 18 digs while Breann Flannery had 13 and Selena Upshur had 9.
 
The Inferno continue their home stand as they take on Lakeland University on Thursday, October 19th at 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium. The Alverno Volleyball team is hosting Faculty Appreciation Day as each volleyball athlete showcases their appreciation for a faculty member as well as all faculty and staff at Alverno College.
