MILWAUKEE – The Alverno Soccer team returned to the friendly confines of the Alverno Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon, playing host to the Aurora Spartans for a conference matchup. The Inferno were on the board first with an early penalty-kick goal, but Aurora rallied back for 10 unanswered to pick up the win.

Georgia Wise picked up the penalty kick goal for her first goal of the season as freshman
Madison Wise was taken down just inside the 18-yard box just over seven minutes into the contest. Wise knocked the ball into the lower left corner to give the Inferno the early 1-0 lead.

Aurora rallied back with a goal less than 90 seconds later to even the score at one before adding three more tallies in the opening half to take a 4-1 lead into the halftime break.

Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Anguiano registered a dozen saves in the opening half, before adding another 14 saves in the second stanza to give her a season-high 26 saves on the season. The Inferno defense was also credited with two saves on the afternoon, with one coming in each half.

In the second half, Aurora scored the remaining six goals of the game, with the final strike coming in the 83rd minute of play.

In addition to Anguiano, five other Inferno played the full 90 minutes including seniors
Ziri Hernandez-Bustos,
Ashley Flores and
Katie Shipley, while G. Wise and sophomore
Yedelmys Ayala also played the full slate of action.

Alverno (0-7-1, 0-5-0 NACC) will be back on the NACC's lone other grass field as the team will travel to nearby Wisconsin Lutheran for a 3:30 pm start against the Warriors on the Warrior Soccer Field.
