MILWAUKEE -- Despite several late-game threats, Alverno College, held on for a 2-1 nonconference victory over visiting MacMurray College Sunday afternoon at Alverno Field.

Andrea Binkley put the Inferno on the board in the 15th minute as she rebounded Jackie Vanderkolk's initial shot that ricocheted off the Highlanders (2-3) goalkeeper for the game's first goal.

Vanderkolk made it 2-0 as she broke free from MacMurray's back line for a breakaway, her eighth goal of the season in the 41st minute.

The Highlanders converted on a free kick in the 62nd to pull within one and had numerous game-tying shots, but Inferno goalkeeper Allison Weick and the defense held firm for the win. Weick recorded three saves.

Off to the best start in program history through six games at 5-1, Alverno returns to the pitch Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
