Prairie Fire Too Hot For Inferno

MILWAUKEE -- Host Alverno College lost its home opener to Knox College, 5-0, Saturday afternoon in the second game of the 2016 Inferno Cup at Alverno Field.

The visiting Prairie Fire (5-0) had four first-half goals, including three in the opening 15 minutes of play for the early cushion.

The Inferno (2-1) limited Knox to just a single score in the second period despite 10 shots, nearly as many as in the first (13).

Alverno goalkeeper Allison Weick registered a season-best nine saves in all 90 minutes at goal.

In the tournament's opening game, Blackburn College rallied to defeat Lakeland University, 5-2.

Knox and Lakeland will face off in Sunday's opening game at 11 a.m., followed by Blackburn and Alverno at 1 p.m. in the classic-style tournament.
