Red Devils Fire Past Inferno

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- After playing nearly even with Eureka College for the first half of play, Alverno College couldn't keep up in the second half and dropped its final game of the Mount Mary Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils (1-2) ended a scoreless tie in the 27th minute as Mecayela Monroe scored the only first-half goal.

Inferno (0-2) goalkeeper Katelyn Bartlett recorded five of her seven saves in the opening period, but the Alverno defense surrendered five second-half scores for the 6-0 final.

Bri McDonald had three of the Inferno's eight shots in the game, including a team-high two on goal, but Eureka's Kalionna Mathews didn't allow a score and recorded her first shutout of the season.

After a pair of neutral-site games, the Inferno hosts its home opener on Wednesday versus Mount Mary. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Alverno Field.
