Box Score MILWAUKEE -- All three goals in Saturday's contest at Alverno Field were via free kicks as visiting Rockford University slipped by Alverno College, 2-1, and spoiled the Inferno's Senior Day in the final home game of the season.
Giovana Ortega gave the Regents (4-13) the lead with five minutes left in the first half before Mackenzi Hesselbart gave the visitors a 2-0 cushion in the 63rd minute.
Sydney Wisner pulled Alverno (2-14) within one in the 81st minute, but the Inferno were unable to find an equalizer in the final minutes of play.
Neysel Powell, the lone Alverno senior, was honored in a ceremony at halftime. The team's 2012 Most Improved Player and 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference All-Sportsmanship selection, had played in all 59 possible games through her junior year, but an unfortunate off-season injury sidelined the Milwaukee native her entire senior campaign.
Next up for the Inferno is the final NACC game of 2015 at Aurora University Wednesday afternoon.
