Defense Shows Improvement In Loss To Cougars

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- A much improved Alverno College defense was on display in a 3-0 loss to visiting Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon at Alverno Field.

The three goals given up by the Inferno (1-12, 0-8 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) were the fewest in the last seven games.

The Alverno back line and rookie goalkeeper Allison Weick had a lot to do with the low-scoring affair, as the Cougars (7-8, 4-3 NACC) were limited on the scoreboard despite 35 shots, 23 of which were on frame. Weick's 20 saves is a new career high, as she started just her third game between the posts.

Concordia Chicago's scores came in the 9th, 18th and 74th minutes, the game winner by Naralie Weinhold early in the contest.

Lauren Fischer had the lone shot for the Inferno attack.

Alverno takes a break from league play to host Finlandia University in a nonconference tilt tomorrow at Alverno Field, a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
