Inferno Falls To Defending Champs In NACC Opener

Box Score

AURORA, Ill. -- Defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference co-champion Aurora University proved too much for visiting Alverno College to handle in a 5-0 final Sunday afternoon at Vago Field.

The host Spartans (5-3-1, 1-0-0 NACC) scored the first goal in the game's eighth minute off the foot of Nicci Bermudes. Bermudes would add two more scores (15', 22') for a hat trick, and the hosts would add a pair of goals in the 38th and 48th minutes for the final tallies.

Alverno (0-5-1, 0-1-0) was held without a shot for the first time this season, unable to penetrate the Spartans' back line that also shutout the No. 4 team in the nation, Wheaton College, 3-0, on Wednesday.

Katelyn Bartlett tallied nine saves in her first-career start at goal for the Inferno.

The Inferno begins a stretch of four-consecutive home games, starting Wednesday versus Illinois Institute of Technology. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Alverno Field.
