Warriors Edge Inferno In Double Overtime

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- A goal in the 102nd minute put visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College on top as the Warriors edged Alverno College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Alverno Field.

Becca Schnell put the host Inferno (1-10-1, 0-5-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) on the board just seven minutes into the contest. The transfer sophomore logged her first collegiate goal against her former team for the game's first goal, as she collected Erica Isaacson's deflected pass near the top of the box and fired it to the back corner of the net for the score.

The Warriors (4-9-2, 1-4-0 NACC) evened up the game just six minutes later as Abby Himm scored on a pass from the left side of the box.

Both teams' defenses would hold firm through the remainder of regulation and a first overtime before the Warriors' Heather Nielsen gave the visitors the sudden victory in the second minute of the second overtime period for her first goal of the season.

The Inferno's loss came despite a 9-8 advantage on shots, including 5-1 in the second half, and despite being limited to just 12 able bodies for the contest due to injury. Meanwhile WLC subbed in and out 17 players during the extended game.

Jenna Reed saved three shots for the Inferno at goal, while Rachel Sebald recorded four for the Warriors.

The Inferno players donned their pink jerseys for the game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Alverno hits the road for another NACC contest on Wednesday at Lakeland College. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
