MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College soccer team clinched the first .500 season in program history Friday afternoon as it thumped visiting Finlandia University 10-0 in the 2013 season finale, also the Inferno's Senior Day at Alverno Field.

"Having a .500 season shows the growth that we have had in the past 5 years and is a step in the right direction," Alverno Head Coach Brittany Nikolic said. "This group of seniors, my first recruiting class, has stuck with the program and knows how far we have come. I am happy for them to be able to go out on a high note."

The Inferno (10-10-0) wasted no time with the attack as senior Ashley Hewing got a hold of a loose ball in the box and fired it past the Lions' goalkeeper for her first-career goal just 1 minute, 17 seconds into action.

Five more of Alverno's 24 first-half shots found the back of the net, as the short-handed Lions (4-8-0) were unable to slow the Inferno offense.

Samantha Devcich (6'), Nava Moniriarani (11'), Hayley Serketich (13'), Amber Thomas (34') and Emily Ogas (38') all collected first-half goals for the 6-0 halftime lead.

Andrea Diaz notched her fourth goal of the season just 3 minutes into second-half play to add to the spread.

Entering today's game, Moniriarani, a senior midfielder playing in her final career game, needed just seven points to become Alverno's all-time points leader. The Oak Creek, Wis. native tallied five in the opening period as she added three assists to her early score, and surpassed Ellie LaFond's record total of 123 (55 goals, 13 assists) with her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute from a pass by Sarah Devcich.

"Nava has set a great example of what an Alverno student-athlete is and can become," commented Nikolic. "Surpassing Ellie's record was icing on the cake for an impressive career and I'm so proud of what she has accomplished."

Six minutes later Moniriarani recorded her final career point as her cross from the left side of the box found an open Serketich near the right post for the easy score. The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's all-time assists leader finished her career with 125 points on 38 goals and 49 assists.

Fittingly, in its 10th victory of the season, the Inferno tallied its 10th and final score of the game on the final tick of the clock, as Jenna Reed defended an errant goal kick by the Lions that got by the visitors' goalie. It marked the fifth time in program history the Inferno tallied double-digit goals and second time this season.

Senior goalkeeper Samantha Robinson didn't get much action on the Inferno's goal line, but posted her 12th-career shutout in her last contest, while senior defender Ashleigh Sagat pushed up from the back line to fire off a pair of shots, including one on goal.

The four seniors--Hewing, Moniriarani, Robinson and Sagat--were honored in a ceremony at halftime. The quad is the most victorious four-year class with 30 career victories.
