Box Score MADISON, Wis. -- Alverno College played league-leading Edgewood College tough for a full 90 minutes today at Breese Stevens Field, but came up short in the 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss to the host Eagles.
The Eagles (12-2-1, 8-0-0 NACC) and Inferno (7-7-0, 2-6-0) remained scoreless for nearly the entire first half, but in the game's 43rd minute Edgewood's Brianna Franken took advantage of one of her team's 11 corner kicks and headed the ball just past Samantha Robinson, the Inferno's goalkeeper who saved nine shots on the day.
Alverno had a pair of chances to even the game, as the Eagles' goalie made a great save on Sydney Wisner's shot from long range in the 62nd minute, and Nava Moniriarani's attempt was just inches wide with less than 4 minutes to play.
"We played pretty well and made it tough for them," Alverno head Coach Brittany Nikolic said. "We controlled the ball a bit and had some nice chances to score."
Alverno returns home for a nonconference home game against the University of Wisconsin-Superior tomorrow at 1 p.m.
