MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College netted a goal in each half to defeat visiting Lakeland College 2-0 this afternoon at a cloudy and rainy Alverno Field in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.

Nava Moniriarani's pass off a free kick connected with Samantha Devcich for the first goal in the game's sixth minute. The early score was Devcich's ninth of her rookie season.

The Inferno held possession of the ball much of the game and had a 15-6 advantage on shots, including 7-4 on goal.

Midway through the second half, Andrea Diaz found the back of the net for her third goal of the season from 25 yards out. The NACC's all-time assists leader, Moniriarani, got her second of the day and 10th of the season on the insurance score.

Samantha Robinson recorded a save in her second shutout of the season.

The win was the first for the Inferno (7-6-0, 2-5-0 NACC) in the all-time series against the Muskies (4-9-1, 1-6-0), as Lakeland won the first 11 meetings between the conference foes.

Alverno faces Edgewood College on Saturday, an 11 a.m. kickoff in Madison.
