Single goal stands as Inferno fall to Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia Chicago Cougars scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute to defeat the visiting Inferno, 1-0, this afternoon at Concordia Stadium.

The defeat drops Alverno to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in Northern Athletics Conference play, while the hosts Cougars improve to 4-4 overall, 1-4 NAC.

Cougar defender Anne Rockert tapped the ball past Alverno goalkeeper Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) off a pass by forward Gorana Micevic for the lone score of the game.

The Inferno were outshot in the game, 13-7, and were shut out on corner kicks, as the Cougars also held the advantage 4-0.

Brittany Carpenter (Winneconne, Wis./Neenah) and Rachel Krueger (Port Washington, Wis.) both led Alverno with two shots apiece.

After three road games, Alverno returns home on Saturday, hosting Northland International University at noon.
