MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College didn't allow a 20-3 game-one defeat to dampen its spirits in game two. The Inferno used a six-run sixth inning to take a 8-7 lead and held on for the victory over visiting Dominican University for a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader split this evening at Alverno Field.

"We really needed that one," Alverno head coach Kristin Ortman said. "It was a nice comeback after the early lopsided loss, but what a great win."

Alverno was on an eight-game losing streak after the game one defeat, but finally got a victory in the nightcap.

The Inferno (6-20, 3-9 NAC) pounded out seven hits in the game-two sixth, which began with a lead-off double down the left-field line by freshman Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius). Laske was sent home after an infield hit by Erika Wotnoske (Greenfield, Wis.) and a throwing error by the visiting Stars (19-11, 11-7 NAC) to start the Inferno scoring.

Laske's turn came up in the order again later in the inning and she knocked home the tying and go-ahead runs on a bloop single to center field.

Rookie right-hander Emily Snell (Denmark, Wis.) finished off the Stars in the top of the seventh for her second win (2-5) from the circle and first complete-game victory.

In the first game of the twin bill the Inferno took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on Stef Wilmore's (Elkhart, Ind./Central) three-run blast to center field for her third homer of the year. But the Stars' Sarah Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) had a few long balls of her own on the way as she connected for three home runs, including two grand slams in the five-inning game. Budz recorded 12 RBIs in the game and was 3-of-5 at the plate.

The Inferno return to action tomorrow as they host Concordia University Wisconsin in a NAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
