Box Score MILWAUKEE -- Alverno didn't allow visiting Northland International to lead for long in today's nonconference game at Alverno Field. The Pioneers took a 1-0 in the 26th minute, but the Inferno's Bryanna Gayle (Milwaukee/Riverside) tied the score with her ninth goal of the season just 20 seconds later and the hosts added four more goals for the 5-1 victory, snapping a four-game skid.
Rachel Krueger (Port Washington, Wis.) scored the go-ahead goal a mere 1:37 after Gayle's game-tying goal, off a pass by Gayle to put the Inferno (3-9 overall) up for good.
In the second half, Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) contributed on each of the three goals, scoring twice herself for her fourth and fifth goals of the season, and assisted on the other.
The assist came directly from a corner kick by Moniriarani that was headed in by Brittany Carpenter (Winneconne, Wis./Neenah) on the fly.
Goalkeeper Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) tallied four saves, and was just shy of her second shutout of the season.
The Pioneers (4-5) lone goal was scored by Nicole Wung off one of the six corner kicks by the visitors.
Alverno hosts Robert Morris-Lake County on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for its second of three-straight nonconference games.
