Box Score WAUKEGAN, Ill. -- Kelly Sunstrom's goal in the 80th minute gave Alverno College a 1-0 nonconference victory over host Robert Morris University-Lake County this evening at Dugdale Park in Waukegan, Ill.
"Kelly made a good run coming out of midfield and connected on a nice slotted pass from Kelsey [Kochanowski] for the score," Alverno head coach Brittany Nikolic said.
It was Sunstrom's (Muskego, Wis./Martin Luther) first goal of the season, and Kochanowski's (Oak Creek, Wis.) second assist of 2010.
The Inferno (3-2) controlled the ball most of the game and had plenty of good looks to score, but had trouble connecting until Sunstrom's second half score.
"It was a frustrating game in a lot of ways, but the girls were able to fight through it enough to get a goal and the result that we wanted."
Alverno outshot the host Eagles, who dropped to 1-5-1 on the season, 22-3 and had four shots that hit the frame of the goal. Just minutes before the Inferno's lone score, Sunstrom shot a header that hit the crossbar for a near score off of a corner kick.
Jackie Clore (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), who came into relieve Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) at goalkeeper, picked up the decision to improve her record at goal to 2-0 on the season. Clore recorded only one save in 45 minutes, while Robinson had two in the first half.
Alverno next takes the field this Saturday in a nonconference game at UW-La Crosse. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
