Inferno loses early lead, game to Sabres

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College freshman midfielder Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) scored the first goal just 8 minutes, 30 seconds into the game, but the Inferno couldn't hold the lead and lost to visiting Marian University 5-1 today at Alverno Field in Milwaukee, the Inferno's Hall of Fame and Homecoming game.

Moniriarani cut through multiple Marian (8-4, 7-2 Northern Athletics Conference) defenders and zipped the ball pass the goalkeeper's outstretched hand for her fifth goal of the season.

The Inferno defense held the Sabres in check for a majority of the first half, but allowed a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes of the half to lose the lead. Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) recorded eight saves in the loss, which drops the Inferno to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in NAC play.

Alverno has just a day of rest before its nonconference game at Beloit College on Monday at 7 p.m.
