Moniriarani's OT goal ends Alverno's 4-game skid

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- Nava Moniriarani's goal with 16 seconds left in overtime gave Alverno College a 2-1 victory over host Wisconsin Lutheran College tonight at Warrior Field in Milwaukee. The win ended the Inferno's four-game losing streak and was their first Northern Athletics Conference win of the season.

After a second corner kick attempt by the Inferno the Warriors tried to clear the ball but sophomore Kelsey Kochanowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) stole the ball from the defender and set up Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) who sent it through the goal for a score and the Inferno (4-6, 1-4 NAC) win. It was the freshman forward's second goal of the night, as she converted a free kick at the 13:20 mark in the first period for her first score of the game.

"Nava was a big part of the attack," Alverno head coach Brittany Nikolic said. "In addition to her goals, she created some dangerous chances for us tonight."

Moniriarani had six of the Inferno's seven shots, all on goal.

Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) recorded her second win of the season as goalkeeper, recording nine saves and allowing just the one score from the Warriors' (4-10, 1-6) attack. That goal came in just over a minute into the second half, as Wisconsin Lutheran's Maggie Smith found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

"We ended well after we lost some of the momentum in the second half, but overall it was good to get a complete game from everyone."

The Inferno take a break from NAC play as the travel cross-town to take on Mt. Mary College in a nonconference game this Thursday at 4 p.m.
