Shorthanded defense falters in second half

Box Score

MADISON, Wis. -- Trailing only 1-0 at half time, the Alverno College soccer team allowed six second-half goals losing 7-1 to host Edgewood College today at Breese Stevens Field in a Northern Athletics Conference game in Madison, Wis.

The Inferno (7-11, 2-8 NAC) allowed the lone goal in the first half at the 6:28 mark, but went on to keep the Eagles (13-4-1, 8-3) off the board the rest of the half which included a barrage of 20 shots by the home team.

Alverno goalkeeper Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) recorded six saves in the half (12 total) helping keep the Eagle scorers at bay.

Unfortunately injuries to an already beat up Inferno defense left the back line a bit shorthanded as Edgewood connected on six of their 20 shots in the second half.

Alverno connected on one of its two corner kicks for their lone score with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) found Kelsey Kochanowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) who headed the ball in for the goal.

The Inferno will play their fourth game in six day as they host Concordia University Chicago in their final home game of the season on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Alverno Field in Milwaukee.
