Maranatha tops Alverno, 6-1

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- The visiting Crusaders of Maranatha Baptist defeated host Alverno College 6-1 today at Alverno Field in Milwaukee.

The Crusaders (4-3, 3-3 Northern Athletics Conference) took an early 3-0 lead before the Inferno (3-6, 0-4) found the back of the net for their first and only score of the day.

Freshman forward Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) was dodging defenders down the middle of the field and found freshman defender Jackie Clore (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) on the left side of the box as Clore's kick sailed past the Maranatha goalkeeper's outstretched hand for her first career goal and Moniriarani's third assist of the season.

Yet the Crusaders would answer back quickly, scoring just over a minute later with 39 seconds remaining in the first period for the 4-1 lead. The visitors would add a pair of second half goals for the 6-1 final.

The Inferno next take the field on Tuesday at Wisconsin Lutheran College as the teams will kick-off under the lights at Warrior Field at 7 p.m.
