Box Score MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College soccer team lost to visiting Lakeland College 5-1 today at Alverno Field in Milwaukee in a Northern Athletics Conference game. The loss is the Inferno's sixth straight home loss this season, not having won on their home field since the season-opener.
The Inferno (6-9, 2-6 NAC) offense got some early attacks and good looks at the goal, but the shots were all off the mark in the early going for the host team.
The visiting Muskies (5-11, 4-5) connected on their third shot of the game at 13 minutes, 39 seconds after kick-off and followed it up with another score just 6 minutes later for the 2-0 lead. Lakeland's Kristina Borts would add her third goal of the game before the half for a natural hat-trick.
In the second period Lakeland would keep the momentum in its favor and add a pair of goals in the period for a 5-0 lead.
Sophomore Kelsey Kochanowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) would finally put the Inferno on the scoreboard converting on a pass by Kelly Rooney (New Berlin, Wis./West) with just over 6 minutes remaining in the game, for her 12th goal of the season.
The Inferno, who trailed 11-8 in shots at the half, would end up outshooting the Muskies 22-18, but the 10 saves by the visiting goalkeeper would keep the Inferno off the board for the most part.
Alverno is next in action this Wednesday versus UW-Superior in a nonconference game. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Alverno Field.
