Alverno shut out by Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. -- The Alverno College women's soccer team was shut out by host Concordia University Wisconsin, 6-0, today in the Northern Athletics Conference opener for both teams.

The Inferno (3-2, 0-1 NAC) played Concordia Wisconsin (3-3, 1-0) even for the first 16 minutes of play before the Falcons' first score slipped past senior goalkeeper Jackie Barnes (Germantown, Wis.) at the 16:15 mark.

Alverno then kept the host Falcons off the board for another 15 minutes, before they tacked on four goals the final 15 minutes of the first half for a 5-0 halftime lead. CUW fired off 29 shots in the first half compared to Alverno's one.

Offensively things would remain the same for the Inferno in the second half getting off only one additional shot, but they would clamp down on defense allowing only 15 shots and one goal.

Barnes recorded a season-high 13 saves in the game, but also allowed a season-high six goals.

Offensively senior forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis./West) had the Inferno's two shots, including one shot on goal.

The Inferno are next in action on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when they host Beloit College in a nonconference contest. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. at Alverno.
