LaFond breaks all-time goals record, helps lead Inferno to shutout over Robert Morris

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- Not only did senior forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis./West) re-write the Alverno College women's soccer record books by becoming the all-time goals leader with a goal in the 24th minute, she turned her record-breaking day into a hat trick by adding two more goals in the second half to help guide the Inferno to a 6-0 shutout victory in non-conference play over Robert Morris University–Lake County at home.

LaFond now has 42 career goals, surpassing former leader Alexandra Salisbury.

The Inferno (3-1 overall) also received offensive input from senior midfielder Alex Brenner (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale), who quickly got her squad on the board with her first two goals of the season in the opening minutes of play.

"Ellie got on the board again and became our all-time goals leader, which was awesome to see and I'm very happy for her," said Alverno head coach Brittany Oliveira. "Alex also started out really strong getting those first two goals. I thought she was a big player for us today."

Freshman forward Kelsey Kochanowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) accounted for the Inferno's sixth goal, scoring near the end of the first half.

"I think we're getting better as a team every game," Oliveira said. "It's nice to see people starting to play better with each other, starting to connect more passes and just understand how everyone plays together."

Alverno will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, opening its Northern Athletics Conference schedule on the road at Concordia University Wisconsin.

"I think it's going to be a bigger challenge, but we're excited about the challenge and the chance to test ourselves against a tougher team," Oliveira said of facing the Falcons. "Their results and their history show that they're a stronger opponent, and obviously there's more on the line with it being the first conference game of the season."

Game time with Concordia is set for 4 p.m. in Mequon, Wis.
