Box Score MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's soccer team was defeated in its second Northern Athletics Conference contest of the season, falling to host Milwaukee School of Engineering, 13-2, on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Inferno (2-5, 0-2 NAC) struggled to find the back of the net in the first half to no avail, while the Raiders notched nine goals before halftime. However, Alverno came out swinging in the second half as sophomore forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis.) was able to inject life into her squad's offense with two goals.
"Our spacing was too far apart in the first half, and I think we were also a little surprised by the speed and power of their offense," said Alverno head coach Angela Zuniga-Meyer. "We were able to correct those issues in the second half by containing their offensive threats and getting some cohesiveness going on offense. We had a nice 1-2-3 passing combo that led to Ellie's first goal."
Alverno senior goalkeeper Jess Kramer (Kenosha, Wis.) had another busy day between the posts, facing 42 shot attempts from the Raiders, 19 of which were on goal, coming up with six saves.
Despite a tough 0-3 losing skid in their past few games, the Inferno will look to re-group and focus on their next NAC contest, which will bring Benedictine University to their home field on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
"Our team is looking forward to a day of rest and a day of practice before our next game," Zuniga-Meyer said. "We've had a long stretch of games over the past few days, and we struggled in yesterday's game (vs. NBBC) and in the first half today. But, we only had a 4-2 deficit in the second half and I saw some improvement. If we can continue that momentum I think we can get back on track to face Benedictine on Tuesday."
Tuesday's kick-off time is set for 4:30 p.m. at Alverno in Milwaukee, Wis.
