BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. – The Alverno College soccer team traveled to Andrews University on Friday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals 5-1. The Inferno created several opportunities throughout the match, but Andrews took advantage of its chances to build a three-goal lead at halftime before adding two more goals in the second half.
Amely Hernandez Alvarez (Milwaukee, Wis./South Division) scored the lone goal for the Inferno unassisted to give them their first score of the 2026 season.
Priya Jackson (Waipahu, Hawaii/Moanalua) finished the game with eight saves in goal, while taking the loss.
Alverno drops to 0-2 with the loss and will next play at Lakeland on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
Andrews opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Katie Davis found the back of the net, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. Ana Lopes added a goal less than 13 minutes later, and an own goal pushed the Andrews lead to 3-0 heading into halftime.
Despite the deficit, Alverno continued to create opportunities in the opening half.

Julia Hamilton (Racine, Wis./Walden III), Hernandez Alvarez and
Natasha Perez (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee High School of the Arts) each recorded shots.
Andrews added to its lead early in the second half when Ruta Jankovic scored in the 51st minute. Alverno responded in the 62nd minute as Hernandez Alvarez scored her first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Cardinals answered less than five minutes later, with Lopes scoring her second goal of the afternoon to make it 5-1. Alverno continued to battle throughout the remainder of the match, with
Irene Evangelista (Milwaukee, Wis./Bayview) recording a shot on goal that was saved by the Andrews goalkeeper.
