Box Score MILWAUKEE -- Although the Alverno College women's soccer team opened its non-conference contest with Northland Baptist Bible College with a 2-0 advantage, the Pioneers came back to score three unanswered goals to snatch the victory, 3-2, on Friday, Sept. 19, on Alverno's home field in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Inferno (2-4, 0-1 NAC) enjoyed a 2-0 lead throughout most of the first half on back-to-back goals by sophomore forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis.). The Pioneers (2-3 overall) cut that lead to one with its first goal with just under three minutes remaining in the half. Senior goalkeeper Jess Kramer (Kenosha, Wis.) did her best to fend off the Pioneers' aggressive offensive line, which peppered the home squad's goal area with 16 shots for the game, by making some spectacular saves. Eventually, though, two more Northland Baptist goals found the back of the net in the second half. Kramer finished with 10 saves for the contest.
Alverno will look to pick up the pieces as the squad resumes Northern Athletics Conference play with Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, Sept. 20. Kick-off time is set for 1 p.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, Wis.
