MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's soccer team shut out Mount Mary College, 50, today en route to a non-conference road victory.
The Inferno (3-14) snapped a 12-game skid which began after opening the season 2-2.
"It was the best game of the year," commented Assistant Coach Josh Hollman, assuming head coaching duties today with Head Coach Angela Zuniga-Meyer temporally out on leave. "The team played exquisitely and efficiently."
Sophomore forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis./West) scored all five Inferno goals, including her fourth with 10 seconds to go in the first half, which was assisted by freshman Isabel Gordon (Milwaukee, Wis./School of the Arts).
"Ellie just played fantastic," said Hollman.
LaFond's third goal came on a long pass by junior defender Jackie Barnes (Germantown, Wis.) who tallied the other assist in today's game.
The Inferno host Concordia University Wisconsin this Saturday at 11:00am, which is also the team's Senior Day. Alverno will then conclude their season next Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill.
