Box Score MILWAUKEE -- The weather may have been warm for Alverno College's Northern Athletics Conference face-off with Lakeland College, but a cold offense doomed the Inferno as Lakeland College recorded a 7-0 shutout victory on Alverno's home field on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Inferno (2-12, 0-8 NAC) managed just one shot in the game, as sophomore forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis.) had her squad's one chance at spoiling the shutout with a breakaway in the second half.
Junior Joslyn Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) spent all 90 minutes in goal for the Inferno, snagging several tough saves to finish with 11 for the game against 30 shots from Lakeland's offensive line.
"I think Joslyn Binkowski played an absolutely phenomenal game based on the number of shots that were put on her," said Alverno head coach Angela Zuniga-Meyer. "She kept her composure throughout the entire game and definitely prevented a lot more scores from happening."
Zuniga-Meyer was also encouraged by the improvement her team has made throughout the past week.
"I think we had a very strong showing in the first half and we're definitely making some progress overall," Zuniga-Meyer said. "The depth of our line really started to affect our play. It was a warm day, but we've had lots of warm days so we should be used to it by now. The fact is that we just don't have a substitution line to go to, which affects us greatly in the end."
The Inferno will continue their season with three road games, beginning with Aurora University for another NAC contest on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Kick-off time is set for 3 p.m. in Aurora, Ill.
