Rockford, IL- Tuesday's match at Rockford University began in a most promising fashion for the Alverno College Volleyball team. The Inferno shot out to a fast start and took set one by a score of 25-22. Things turned sour from that point for Alverno however, as Rockford would take three straight very tight sets to take the match by a 3-1 final score.
After Alverno's set one win, Rockford would take the 2
nd by a 25-20 final. Set three proved to be the pivotal set in the match. The two teams traded rallies and points until Rockford finally pulled away for a 25-21 win.
In the 4
th, Rockford would take an early lead at 11-4. The Inferno would score the next four points to jump back into the set. From that point forward, another remarkably close set played out. Neither team was able to claim more than a 3 point lead until Rockford would grab the momentum and pull away for a 25-20 win in the deciding set.
Looking at the stats from the match,
Olivia McCann (Ennis,TX) recorded 16 kills and
Mary Needham (San Tan Valley,AZ) added 14.
Carley Juneau (Milwaukee,WI) played a stellar all-around match with 36 assists and 15 digs.
Brooklynne Hereford (Beloit, WI) would lead the Inferno in digs with 27.
Alverno will return home for their next two matches, both on Saturday, October 10
th. As part of a Tri-Match at Reiman Gymnasium, the Inferno will take on Eureka at 2 pm, and Wisconsin-River Falls at 6. On September 18
th, Alverno dropped an extremely close five set match to Eureka, and the Inferno will look to turn the tables on Saturday.
