MILWAUKEE – Alverno softball tied the program record with three home runs in the opening game of a NACC doubleheader against the Marian Sabres on Thursday afternoon. The visiting Sabres won the opening game by a 13-4 score and won game two, 20-4.
Â
Alyssa Hubli homered twice in the opener with
Dominique Tetrault connecting on the first home run of her career in game one as the Inferno had three home runs in a game for just the ninth time in program history.
Â
The three home runs in one game is the second time that Alverno has done so in 2025, last occurring on March 26, when
Giselle Moreno had two round trippers and
Alexis Wheeler added one of her own.
Â
Hubli's two home runs also tied the program mark for home runs in a game by a single player, joining Moreno who has done so twice in her career. Hubli becomes just the eighth different player in program history to have a multi-home run effort, while becoming the 10th to do so overall. Moreno and
Stef Wilmore are the only players in Alverno history with two multi-home run efforts.
Â
Beyond the team's power, Alverno had nine hits in the opener and seven in the night cap. Moreno, Tetrault, and
Hailie Eschbach each had three hits on the day, while Hubli, Wheeler and
Emily Anguiano each had two hits apiece.
Â
Bailey Gardner pitched six innings in the opener with two strikeouts, before starting in game two and getting the first four outs. Tetrault came on for the final 3 2/3 innings and struck out a career-high five batters. Tetrault's previous career high was four back on Apr. 15, 2023.
Â
Alverno will next play on Saturday, when the team visits St. Norbert for a league doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Mel Nicks Sports Complex.
