Softball Secures 6-4 Victory over St. Thomas University to Close out Gene Cusic Classic

THE LEAD – Alverno closed out the 2025 Gene Cusic Classic yielding a split decision with  St. Joseph's University Brooklyn cruised past the Inferno, 8-6, before the Inferno secured a 6-4 victory over St. Thomas University in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1 vs. St. Joseph's University Brooklyn)
  • Alverno opened the contest with plating three runs to take an early 3-0 when Alyssa Hubli doubled to center field to score Alex Wheeler. Sam Vinti singled to left field to score Hubli. Emily Anguiano singled to score Giselle Moreno.
  • St. Joseph's answered in the bottom of the first inning with adding three runs to tie the game 3-all
  • Alverno plated its final three runs in the final inning when Anguiano doubled to center field scoring Jaycee Reyes and Morgan Whitten.
  • St. Joseph's exploded for three runs in the fourth inning to build a commanding 6-2 lead. They added two additional runs in the sixth to take the 8-6 victory.
  • Alverno was led by Emily Anguiano who was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4 with one run and three RBI's
  • Alverno had 13 total players to record hits
  • One the mound for the Red and White to start things off was Bailey Gardner who pitched the contest only allowing eight runs, 13 hits and  one strikeout in the 29 batters faced.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2 vs. St. Thomas University)
  • Alverno opened the contest with plating two runs to take an early 2-0 when Alex Wheeler and Alyssa Hubli scored on a wild pitch.
  • St. Thomas answered in the bottom of the first inning with adding three runs to lead 3-2
  • Alverno plated another run in the second inning to tie the game 3-all
  • Alverno exploded for three runs in the fifth inning to build a commanding 6-4 victory.
  • Alverno was led by Alyssa Hubli who was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4 with two  runs
  • Alverno had 12 total players to record hits
  • One the mound for the Red and White to start things off was Bailey Gardner who pitched the contest only allowing four runs, 13 hits and  five strikeouts in the 33 batters faced.
