NAPLES, Fla. – The Alverno College softball team yielded a split decision this afternoon to Crown College during the opening day of the Gene Cusic Classic. The Inferno moves to 1-1 on the young season.
Crown College got on the board first adding two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Inferno answered at the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 advantage before Crown added one run to tie the game at 3-even. Alverno added six runs in the sixth highlighted by a double from Kate Peabody and a single from
Jaycee Reyes. The Polars then added eight more runs in the fifth but the Inferno opened up the flood gates with two runs in the sixth inning. The home team answered in the bottom of the inning plating five runs to secure the 16-11 victory.
Dominique Tetrault and
Giselle Moreno went 3-for-4 from the plate with a combined three runs.
Jaycee Reyes went 2-for-3 at the plate. While
Hailie Eschbach were 2-for-four. Kate Peabody was perfect from the plate finished 1-for 1 with an RBI.
15 Inferno registered a hit in game two while Hubli, Reyes and Anguiano finished with two RBI's.
Alverno College will return to action on Saturday, March 15 against Geneva College and Lesley University. Game times are set for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time from North Collier Regional Park.
