NAPLES, Fla. - The Alverno College softball team opened its 2025 season at the Gene Cusic Classic securing a 4-0 victory over Lesley University at North Collier Regional Park with Coach Schmuck securing his first collegiate victory.
Both teams opened the contest trying to secure the lead but remained scoreless in the first three innings. Alverno bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Giselle Moreno tripled to right field scoring
Alyssa Hubli. Next Dominique Tetrault grounded out to the third baseman to give Alverno a 2-0 advantage. The Inferno added its final runs of the contest on the fifth inning to take the 4-0 victory.
The Inferno was led by
Giselle Moreno who was two-for-three plate securing a run and one RBI. On the mound was
Bailey Gardner who pitched seven impressive innings in her collegiate debut only allowing six hits, one walk and three strikeouts in the 30 batters faced. Gardner secured her first victory on the mound for the Red and White.
As a team the Inferno finished with four runs, seven hits, three RBI's and one walk.
