MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Inferno Volleyball team returned to the court for their season opener at Reiman Gymnasium with a nail-bitter match Wednesday evening versus Beloit College.
The Inferno fell to Beloit College in a close match, losing 3-2. The Buccaneers pulled ahead early winning the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-10. The Inferno answered back winning sets three and four, 25-17 and 25-12, showing that they were ready to compete for the comeback.
Going into the fifth set, the Buccaneers pulled ahead early, winning the set-concluding match, 15-8.
As a team, the Inferno came out with a .272 hitting percentage with 43 kills, with seniors taking the charge. Senior Rolin West set a new personal and school record having 31 kills in a single match along with 20 digs. Senior Izzy Gianniou contributed with 33 assists for the night.
Making her college debut, freshman Elyse Kozikowski collected 13 digs and 4 kills. Junior Sharisty Kooch led the Inferno with four aces and nine digs.
The Inferno continue their season this Friday and Saturday, competing at Mount Mary University, competing against Mount Mary and Lawrence at 2:30 pm and 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
