MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Alverno softball team got back on the field on Monday evening at Bedrosian Stadium as the Inferno took on the Aurora Spartans. The Aurora University hosted Alverno as they yielded a split decision by the scores of 16-1 and 7-2.
Host Aurora University got things going in the second inning adding 16 runs to take a 16-0 lead. Alverno answered in the bottom of the third inning when
Samantha Schrader grounded out to second base to score
Hailie Eschbach giving the Inferno its only run of the contest.
Laura Heim, Samantha Vinit,
Lexi Hess, Dominique Tétrault and
Hailie Eschbach all recorded hits in the opening contest.
In the night cap, Alverno got on the board early
Emily Anguiano lined out to shortstop to score
Lexi Hess. Aurora answered in the top of the third inning to tie at game at one-all. Alverno answered in the bottom of the fifth with two runs to take a 3-1 lead. Aurora added in the sixth inning plating its final run of the contest. In the bottom of the inning Alverno was able to plate four runs to take the 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
Jocilyn Janeway pitched one inning in the opener only allowing 13 hits, 14 runs, and one strikeout in the 20 batters faced.
Maggie Wilmot and
Samantha Schrader pitched the remaining of the game.
Nevaeh Cruz pitched the entirety of the second game of the nightcap and struck out a pair over her seven innings of work.
Alverno (3-11, 1-7 NACC) will be back in action on Thursday, April 11
th, as the Inferno will play a make-up doubleheader traveling to face the MSOE Raiders. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
