Alverno Softball Visits Benedictine in NACC Doubleheader

LISLE, Ill. – The Alverno softball team took its final trip outside of Milwaukee County on Sunday to take on the Eagles of Benedictine University at Heidkamp Field. The Eagles won the opener by an 16-8 score, and the second game by a 9- margin.
 
Andrea Ramirez got things going for Alverno in the opening contest, as she connected on a double to center field in the opening inning to score senior Lexi Hess and sophomore Giselle Moreno to take a 2-0 lead. The host answered in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Inferno was held scoreless in the next inning as the host added a run to edge the score to take a 3-2 lead. In the top of the third inning, Ramirez single4d to left field to score Moreno to cut the lead 4-3. Benedictine University then added two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 lead.
 
Alverno's biggest inning was in the fourth when Jaylynne Ramsey grounded out to the shortstop to bring Jaycee Reyes home.  Giselle Moreno then reached on an error who saw Samantha Schrader across home plate. Senior Lexi Hess then singled to center field scoring Moreno and Laura Heim to give Alverno an 7-6 lead. Dominique Tétrault closed out the scoring when she singled to right field to score Hess to bring the score 8-6. The host added 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the 16-8 victory.  
 
Alverno finished the opening contest with seven hits to the host's 15 hits.
 
Offensively in the second game, the Inferno finished with 12 hits. Laura Heim, Jaylynne Ramsey, Giselle Moreno, Lexi Hess, Emily Anguiano, Dominique Tétrault, Michelle Hess, Jaycee Reyes and Samantha Schrader all recorded hits. The team started strong taking a 2-0 after one inning. The host scored a combined five runs to take the 5-2 lead. The visitors answered in the top of the fourth inning adding three runs to tie the score 5 all. The host then added a run in the bottom of the inning to take the 6-5 lead. Alverno then added two additional runs in the remaining innings while the hosts also added three runs to cruise to the 9-7 victory. s
 
In the circle, the first game for Alverno was Samantha Schrader who started pitching three innings only allowing 12 hits, 13 runs, four walks and one strikeout in the 26 batters faced. Michelle Hess finished the contest pitching one inning only allowing three hits, three runs and one walk in the seven batters faced.
 
In the nightcap, Nevaeh Cruz tossed six innings only allowing 14 hits, nine runs, two walks and two strikeouts in the 33 batters faced.

 
Alverno (5-27, 2-20 NACC) will close out the 2024 regular season on Saturday, May 4th as they host Rockford University at the Alverno Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
