Inferno Comeback Bid Falls Short in Doubleheader Loss to Beloit College

MILWAUKEE – Beloit College softball held leads of 4-0 and 8-4 but Alverno scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to cut the lead 11-8 then plating two addition runs in the final inning yielding a 11-10 to the Buccaneers this afternoon. In the nightcap the Inferno finished the contest 9-5 in favor of Beloit.
 
Alverno (5-21) pounded out nine hits while Beloit (6-23) had 19 hits.
 
 
Beloit scored four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Alverno answered in the bottom of the third inning when Lexi Hess tripled to right field to score Samantha Schrader. Followed by Samantha Vinti's sac fly out to right field scoring Lexi Hess cutting the score 4-2. The visitors added four additional runs in the top of the fourth inning before Alverno's Emily Anguaino singled to center field scoring Moreno and Heim to bring the score 8-4. In the sixth inning, Beloit added its final three runs of the contest to bring the score to 11-4. The Inferno bats became hot in the final two innings of the contest with Heim and Vinti singles in addition to a walk and scoring on a wild pitch that wasn't enough falling 11-10.
 
Samantha Schrader started things on the mound for Alverno pitching six innings only allowing 17 hits, 11 runs, two walks and one strikeout in the 35 batters faced. Michelle Hess made her collegiate debut closing things out by pitching one inning only allowing two hits, one walk and one strikeout in the six batters faced. As a team, the Inferno finished with nine RBIs.
 
In the nightcap, Beloit would score first in the top of the first inning adding a run to take a 4-0 lead. Alverno would answer in the bottom of the first inning When Giselle Moreno doubled to right field to take a 4-1 lead. The visitor added an additional run in the second inning before the hosts answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead 5-4. Beloit had a bug fifth inning plating four runs to advance the score 9-4. The home team answered in the bottom of the sixth securing one run falling short 9-5.
 
Alverno finished the contest with eight hits and eight RBIs.
 
Maggie Wilmot started on the mount for Alverno pitching two innings only allowing five hits, five runs and one strikeout in the 15 batters faced. Michelle Hess pitched three innings only allowing three hits and four runs in the 18 batters faced. Laura Heim finished pitching two innings only allowing one hit in the five batters faced.
